Three records were broken in the girls’ sprint hurdles semifinals in classes one, three and four at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs) at the National Stadium on Friday.
Tiana Marshall of Wolmer's Girls' School became the first Class One athlete to go below 13 seconds in the 100m hurdles, clocking 12.98 to eclipse the 13.00 set by Hydel High's Oneka Wilson’s in 2022.
Marshall advanced comfortably to the final and will start as favourite for the title.
In the Class Three 80m hurdles, Azaria Harris of Alpha Academy and Danelia Clarke of Edwin Allen High School both bettered St Jago's Camoy Binger’s 2022 record of 10.87, clocking 10.80 and 10.82 respectively, with Harris claiming the new record.
However, Edwin Allen's Tashana Godfrey posted the fastest time of the round at 10.75, though it was wind-assisted (2.6 m/s) and will not be recognised for record purposes.
In Class Four, Keneisha Robinson of Hydel High School equalled Malayia Duncan’s 2022 record of 10.38 and heads into the final as the favourite.
The finals are scheduled to begin at 1:20 p.m. on Saturday.
