The St Catherine North police have pledged to take a firm stance against illegal vending, robberies, extortion, and other anti-social activities during the Christmas season.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Constantine Bennett said that officers, including office personnel and student police, will be highly visible across the parish, particularly in business districts, to maintain order and prevent criminal disruptions.

Bennett was speaking at Thursday's monthly meeting of the council of the St Catherine Municipal Authority.

DSP Bennett also highlighted the importance of community support in sustaining crime reductions.

He noted that, compared to the similar period last year, murders have fallen from 90 to 62, a 29 per cent decline. Shootings have dropped 22 per cent, moving from 72 to 56 incidents.

“While we are enjoying these gains, the police are seeking the partnership of the councillors to enjoy further success,” he said.

Bennett said the police will redouble efforts during the festive season to combat migrant criminal activities and other acts that threaten peace.

Several councillors pledged that the local planning authorities will work to educate citizens on lawful conduct and civic responsibility.
