The Pocket Rocket Foundation (PRF) All-Star team delivered a strong showing in St Vincent and the Grenadines, securing a win and overall putting in two competitive performances in a series against the St Vincent-based Awesome Sports All-Star team.
The team travelled from April 8–13, with the series providing an opportunity for players coming out of the foundation’s Peace Through Sports programme to test themselves in a new environment.
Reflecting on the experience, team captain Jermaine Fletcher described the opportunity as a memorable one for the group, both on and off the field. He noted that, from the moment the team arrived, they were warmly received and embraced by supporters, adding to what he called a “one in a million” experience.
“It felt great to be selected as captain for the team. It was a great experience all around - the warm welcome, seeing Jamaican fans on the island and meeting the St Vincent players. We won one of the two matches and, of course we wanted to win both games, but the team came together and did well. It is an experience I will always remember,” he said.
The PRF All-Stars opened the series with a 3-0 win on Friday, April 10 at Independence Park, led by a standout performance from Jahiem Dorman, the leading goalscorer from the PRF Peace Through Sports Six-A-Side football competition. Dorman sealed the win with a hat-trick.
The second match, played on Sunday, April 12 at the Chilli Playing Field in Georgetown, saw the home side edge a narrow 1-0 victory in a closely contested encounter.
PRF Founder and Chairwoman, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, said she is truly proud of how the team showed up, performed and represented Jamaica. She noted that the experience strongly reflects the foundation’s focus on creating meaningful opportunities for young athletes.
“This was never just about the results,” she said. “Of course, we would have loved to win both matches, but this trip was bigger than the games; It was about giving the young men the opportunity to represent their communities on a different level, and show them what is possible when they use their talents for good,” Fraser-Pryce said.
The exchange was facilitated in collaboration with Awesome Sports International, led by former St Vincent national footballer Renson Haynes, and sponsored by Nike, InterCaribbean Airlines, Sanmerna Paper Products Ltd, the Sports Development Foundation, Gatorade, GraceKennedy, Digicel and Supreme Ventures.
