Frazsiers Whip’s Kersha Thomas dribbles away from Springers United FC’s Jasheika Harris during a Jamaica Women’s Premier League fixture at the Excelsior High School on Saturday.

Frazsiers Whip head coach Courtney Dowdie says his players are once again ready to defend their Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) title as they go hunting for their fourth straight hold on the crown.

Frazsiers Whip have been the most dominant team in the JWPL over the past few years, and the reigning champions have won the last three titles in a row.

Dowdie said they are preparing for another successful title defence, and believes his team has what it takes to secure the title once again.

“I always see my team going all the way. We have the potential, and I think we can go all the way,” Dowdie said.

“It’s just for the girls to stay on the task and stay focused. Of course, my job is to ensure that I prepare them as best as possible so we can get to that target.”

Train like champions

Dowdie explained that the JWPL title will not be won on match days but before that, on the training pitch.

He explained it is his duty to ensure the team trains like champions, before they start to believe they can become champions.

He also said it will be a challenge to defend their title once again, as every team in the league will come with the intention of dethroning them.

“We have to train like champions to become champions,” Dowdie explained.

“It’s always difficult when you’re champions because persons will come at you. I try my best to keep them level-headed and ensure that when we are out to train, we train to our best.”

Frazsiers Whip squad has been bolstered by several new faces, who Dowdie said have settled in well into their new surroundings.

One of their major acquisitions this season was Shanel Spence, the former Cavalier striker who had bagged 37 goals last season.

Another player who made the switch from Cavalier to Frazsiers Whip was Kersha Thomas, with defender Asia Lee making the switch from Arnett to the reigning champions.

Dowdie said the players have been good additions to the squad and will play key roles in their title defence.

“The beauty about it is that they wanted to come here. They see what we do here, and they want to be a part of it. The beauty about it is that Spence has gone two goals from three games,” he said.

“For me, that’s a beautiful start. Kersha Thomas came in, Asia Lee came in as well. They’re settling well, and they’re contributing as much as they can for the team.”

Frazsiers Whip have enjoyed a perfect start to the season with three wins in a row, having defeated Los Perfectos, Federal United, and Springers United.
