On a night of fast times and personal bests, Holland High’s Shanoya Douglas emerged as the standout performer, winning gold in the girls' Class One 100m final in 10.98 seconds, going sub-11 as expected, at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships.
Douglas had impressed through the rounds, clocking 11.85 in the heats and 11.17 in the semifinals.
When the lights shone brightest, she ran a personal best and world-leading 10.98, becoming only the second high school athlete to break 11 seconds at Champs, following Alana Reid’s 10.92 in 2023.
Her performance moved her to fourth on Jamaica’s all-time Under 20 female list, behind Reid, Tina Clayton, and Briana Williams. Douglas is also expected to challenge the 200m Champs record tomorrow, holding a personal best of 22.58, just outside Brianna Lyston’s 22.53.
Honourable Mentions:
Jamaica College’s Kai Kelly won the Class Two 100m in a personal best 10.28, while Kingston College’s Julius Itubo claimed the Class Three 1500m in a Champs record 4:00.76, breaking his own 4:05.15 mark from last year.
