Taxi operator accused of sexually assaulting teen arrested

The suspect was apprehended after his vehicle was intercepted by members of the police Fugitive Apprehension Team.

A taxi operator who allegedly sexually assaulted a teenager in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Sunday has been arrested by the police.

The name of the 48 year-old suspect is being withheld pending further investigations, sources revealed.

Reports are that about 10:45a.m. the 13-year-old complainant boarded a taxi in Spanish Town that was heading to Angels.

After letting off other passengers along the journey, the accused reportedly diverted to the Angels Grove Housing Scheme.

It’s alleged that he locked the teenager inside the vehicle before the sexual assault.

The incident was reported to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.

The complainant was medically examined and investigators later commenced a probe into the incident.
