A 50-year-old St Andrew carpenter has been charged after allegedly collecting $35,000 and furniture for repairs but failing to return either to the client.
Richard Anthony Hall, also known as ‘Richie’, of Lady Huggins Avenue, in St Andrew, has been charged with fraudulent conversion and failure to deliver goods.
Police reports state that on January 15, 2025, the complainant paid Hall $35,000 in cash to repair several pieces of furniture.
Four days later, on January 19, she reportedly delivered items including a nine-drawer dresser, two nightstands, a centre table, a bed base, a chest of drawers, and a bed head.
The furniture was to be repaired and spray-painted within two weeks.
Investigators allege that Hall neither completed the work nor returned the items after the agreed period elapsed.
The complainant allegedly made multiple attempts to contact Hall to recover her furniture and payment, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
On Tuesday, March 17, at approximately 8:15 pm, Hall was apprehended at his home by officers from the Grants Pen Police Station and taken into custody.
He was formally charged on Thursday, after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.
