Everald Warmington, member of paliament for St Catherine South Western.

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Member of Parliament Everald Warmington is an exception and not the rule in how he responds to and treats his fellow member of parliament (MPs) whenever something they say and/or done sparks his ire.

This characteristic is a refreshing change because MPs, on both sides of the political aisle, traditionally and generally, often do not criticise members of their own party. Not so with Warmington, though. In fact I admire this quality in him which has been on full public display for decades.

That said the main criticism I have of Warmington is not so much what he says but rather how he says it. Whenever he becomes triggered by something one or more of his parliamentary colleagues says and/or does his tone is usually loud, unbridled and disrespectful.

However, he more often than not is usually correct insofar as the basis of his complaints or criticisms are concerned during parliamentary sittings.

Mr Warmington should continue to hold his parliamentary colleagues’ ‘feet to the fire’, whether he is complaining to the House Speaker about a breach of the Standing Orders or criticising a Cabinet minister for not fixing or replacing a bridge in his constituency. But he should strive to do so in a more respectful manner.
