Letter of the Day | Call for leadership anchored in justice, compassion and righteousness

THE EDITOR, Madam:

The Watchman Church Leaders Alliance (WCLA) congratulates all those elected to serve in political leadership. We commend the peaceful conduct of the elections and the efforts of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) on its victory, and the People’s National Party (PNP) on a well-fought campaign.

We recognise the new parliamentary balance as an important shift towards greater accountability, reflecting the people’s decision for a more effective and responsive democracy.

We urge collaboration between government and Opposition in advancing policies that serve the common good. In the spirit of unity, we encourage both sides to consider and implement mutually agreed and beneficial proposals.

The WCLA calls for robust parliamentary leadership in funding and monitoring to strengthen the delivery of healthcare and access for the poor, protection of the vulnerable, as well as Family-centred and community-based programmes.

We commit to partnering in restoring values and attitudes, ensuring national initiatives reflect Jamaica’s Christian moral and cultural foundations and in upholding public order, decency, and integrity.

We invite our political leaders to partner with the Church in building a culture of consensus leadership across sectors, anchored in justice, compassion, and righteousness.

We reaffirm our commitment to pray for our nation and its leaders, trusting that Jamaica will flourish through a steadfast dedication to unity and righteousness. As the Bible reminds us, ‘righteousness exalts a nation’.
