Police assigned to the St Catherine North Division have detained eight Haitians following an operation in the parish on Saturday.
The operation was launched after the Ewarton police received information that Haitian nationals had allegedly entered the island illegally.
During a search of a premises in the Browns Town district in Ewarton, the police detained four men and four women.
Head of the St Catherine North Division, Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, said the police are on high alert and will be taking a firm stance against illegal entry.
“We are going to deal with these instances in a serious way, so it is a message to all that illegal entry is a crime,” SSP Nicholson said.
The Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency has been notified.
