The Kingston and St Andrew dining scene welcomed a new restaurant this week as Mezza Luna opened its doors on Tuesday. This restaurant introduces locals to an exciting array of Mediterranean fusion dishes, crafted by the same team behind the popular Mystic Thai franchise. With this debut, the group expands its culinary footprint to four restaurants, reflecting its commitment to diversifying Jamaica’s culinary landscape with less commonly explored global cuisines.

Mezza Luna, which translates to “half moon”, reflects both the restaurant’s serene ambience and the owners’ next chapter of reinvention. “We’ve been focusing on Asian cuisine and wanted to take a different route. Our guests have been amazed, sharing that they’ve never experienced anything quite like this in Jamaica,” said restaurant owner Karina Mahbubani.

The choice of Mediterranean flavours is personal for her, tied to her business partner, William Mahfood’s background and a mutual desire to bring exotic yet familiar, colourful, and shareable dishes to Jamaica.

The opening night featured an enticing preview of Mezza Luna’s Mediterranean menu, starting with a vibrant four-hummus platter that included classic, beetroot, halal, and a Scotch bonnet variation that provided a unique Jamaican twist. The minced lamb and pine nut spring rolls offered a delightful contrast of textures, featuring a crisp golden exterior. Equally impressive was the crispy cauliflower, accompanied by tahini sauce, praised for its light crunch and warm, aromatic flavour.

The evening’s dishes were perfectly matched by a playful cocktail line-up, beginning with the refreshing heichee cocktail, a crisp blend of Heineken and lychee. Guests also gravitated toward signature mixes like the Don Julio spiced apple tequila, the golden Santorini sunset, blue capri crush and the fragrant cardamom kiss, each adding its own island-meets-Mediterranean flair to the experience.

From its elevated rooftop setting to the seamless indoor/outdoor flow, Mezza Luna offers a fresh option for diners looking to explore Mediterranean flavours. Even with multiple locations operating successfully, for the Mystic Thai team, growth is fueled not by scale, but by passion. “It’s the love, [the desire] to make people experience something they haven’t experienced before. It’s a passion for serving good food in a good environment with good service,” shared Mahbubani.

Mezza Luna is located at 110 Constant Spring Road in St Andrew.
